03 Jun BROOKE PINTO’S STATEMENT ON CURRENTLY BEING IN THE LEAD OF THE WARD 2 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY RACE
June 3, 2020
Ward 2 and the greater District are facing two historically difficult crises—the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing civil unrest protesting systemic racism and injustice facing Black Americans. Both challenges require thoughtful and decisive action to help us pick up the pieces in an equitable and just manner. We unequivocally stand with those demanding racial equality and justice because Black Lives Matter. We must do better in Ward 2 and in DC.
Yesterday, residents in Ward 2 spoke up—their votes put us in the lead. It is abundantly clear voters are ready for change. Thank you to all of our supporters who have made the possibility of meaningful, historic change in Ward 2 a reality. I am grateful for the consistent hard work of our volunteers and campaign team who are indefatigable. Yesterday, we saw voters stand in line for hours who knew that voting is one of the best ways they could use their voices to enact change.
Now, with the Special Election just days away, our work continues. We will focus on COVID-19 recovery and tackling the racial injustices our community and city face head on. I look forward to reaching out to everyone in the coming days who were part of advancing these conversations so we can move our city forward, together. We will do better.
